I never thought in a million years that I would have to write this. Especially about someone who I've admired adored and respected since I was a kid. Tom Petty was a HUGE part of my childhood. My earliest memories were listening to him on road trips. Tom Petty's Greatest Hits was the only cassette tape we had in the car so we would listen to him for 4 hours to our destination and then 4 hours back on the drive home. For years afterwards, I was able to automatically think of the next song if I heard him in the store or on the radio. He was imbedded into my head. Something I wouldn’t change.
I had the privilege of seeing Tom perform in concert with Joe Cocker and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity. He is/was such a laid back performer, you were just able to sit back and relax and enjoy the show. I’m in complete shock and disbelief. The craziest thing was that he was just in town back in August and because I was going out of town, I wasn’t able to go.I don’t know what to say, even if I did, I wouldn’t know how to say it. Thank you, Tom for the memories, the music and for being part of my childhood. I hope your rocking in paradise. A great man who left us too soon, but we will always remember you for the amazing musician that you were.
Rest In Peace.
